Exhibition Consultants Ltd (ECL) is a management consultancy established in 1974 to provide specialist advice and services for the conventions and business events industry – including specifically the development and management of exhibition and convention centres.

ECL is part of the Angus Montgomery group of worldwide exhibition and event organisers, consultants and venue managers. The Group dates back to 1895 and is active in Europe, Africa and Asia, working independently or with regional partners and associates.

Sensitivity to other cultures and markets has resulted in many years of successful specialist consulting throughout the world. ECL has, over the last forty years, carried out assignments in Europe, Africa, Asia and the Middle East.

ECL’s professional services cover feasibility and planning studies, development advice, market research, marketing strategies and training. This expertise is relevant to convention venue management, major business events projects and business tourism generally.

Built upon Trevor Foley's extensive network and long-standing relationships across the global events industry, tfconnect is a strategic partner for organisers, venues and suppliers.

At its core, tfconnect is both an event organiser and a unique, specialist, global network of talent, connecting senior players in the industry with top-level roles, building teams and matching events professionals to the right businesses - from sales execs to CEOs.

Working as a partner (not a recruiter) and with a quality over quantity approach - tfconnect specialise in hard-to-find senior and international talent. As of June 2015, tfconnect is engaged with over 30 clients, working on roles across 18 different countries.

tfconnect also offer smart services to help grow clients' businesses - including big data insights / solutions, insurance products, consultancy and events software. Alongside UFI, tfconnect are the co-organisers of the Global CEO Summit - THE networking and insight event for global industry CEOs.


Sandy Angus

Angus Montgomery

Sandy Angus has worked in the exhibitions industry since joining Montgomery’s South African exhibition operations in 1968, and its London office in 1970. His long career has embraced international show organising, exhibition display contracting, venue management, marketing and senior corporate general management. His network of high-level connections throughout the world of exhibitions, event organising, show venues and host business cities is probably unequalled.

Sandy undertakes strategic consultancy and has provided advice to UN and European Union agencies. He is in demand as a speaker at exhibition industry conventions and seminars. He is an active consulting director of all Montgomery’s operating companies and an active director/consultant with Exhibition Consultants Ltd, recently advising the Oman Ministry of Commerce on exhibition industry issues, in Hong Kong, the West Kowloon Cultural District on the establishment of a cultural exhibitions centre, and in the UK, Wasps Rugby Ltd on the acquisition of the Ricoh Arena exhibition and convention facilities.

He is a frequent traveller to Asia where Montgomery has current projects in India, China and Hong Kong, as well as being very familiar with the African exhibition scene.

Trevor is a mine of invaluable information with an address book that spans the globe. Since 2008, tfconnect has been committed to helping events businesses of all shapes and sizes achieve their goals and rise to the challenges of an ever-changing, global industry.

Trevor has over 20 years experience in exhibitions and conferences, as Group Chief Executive of the Association of Event Organisers (AEO), the Association of Exhibition Venues (AEV) and the Association of Exhibition Contractors (AEC) between 2006-08 and with a track record of launching and growing great events. This includes 10 years of developing and running events for event organisers - a tough crowd to please!

John Vimpany

Exhibition Consultants Ltd, Montgomery

John Vimpany joined Montgomery in 1966, becoming Managing Director of Exhibition Consultants Ltd (ECL), in 1976. Under his direction as the company’s principal consultant, ECL’s assignments became diverse and worldwide, embracing feasibility studies for new national exhibition and trade fair venues in Hong Kong, Thailand, Indonesia, Lagos Nigeria and Sudan’s Khartoum International Fairgrounds. John has also directed exhibition research and training projects funded by UN and European agencies for emerging countries and many other exhibition-related assignments including responsibility for the operation and marketing of the Liverpool International Garden Festival in 1984 that successfully began the city's regeneration as a tourist, cultural and business destination.

More recently, as ECL’s Director and lead consultant, John led the feasibility study to modernise the Cyprus State Fair and was the ECL lead consultant for an Arts Exhibition Centre study in Hong Kong and an exhibition industry study for the government of Oman. John has been involved with the Malaysia’s vast new Exhibition Centre Project as an industry expert adviser.

  • Headed ECL teams providing technical assistance to new trade fair centres in Lagos and Khartoum: late 1970s and many other projects in the 1980s
  • Responsible for Montgomery’s Pty Ltd business development market research, including Specialised Exhibitions in South Africa: 1980s
  • Project Director for operation and marketing of the Liverpool International Garden Festival: 1984
  • Chief Executive of the Mary Rose Trust: 1990s
